Discover Rendang & Co - Indonesian Bistro

Walking into Rendang & Co - Indonesian Bistro feels like stepping into a cozy neighborhood spot that just happens to serve some of the most comforting Indonesian food in Tulsa. Tucked away at 5083 E 51st St, Tulsa, OK 74135, United States, the bistro has quickly become a go-to for locals who want bold flavors without the fuss. The space is casual and welcoming, the kind of place where you can come straight from work or linger over lunch with friends.

The menu is centered around Indonesian classics, and you can tell care went into curating it. Rendang, the slow-braised beef dish the restaurant is named after, is the star for a reason. Cooked for hours in coconut milk and spices, it arrives tender and deeply flavored, with layers of lemongrass, galangal, and chili that build warmth rather than overpower your palate. I first tried rendang years ago at a food festival, and this version holds its own with the best I’ve had, striking that balance between rich and comforting that defines the dish.

Beyond rendang, the menu explores familiar comfort foods like nasi goreng, satay skewers, and curries that showcase Indonesia’s diverse culinary roots. The kitchen follows traditional methods, including slow simmering spice pastes and toasting aromatics before cooking, which is why the flavors feel rounded and authentic. According to culinary research from Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism, dishes like rendang rely on up to a dozen spices layered at different stages, and you can taste that attention to detail here. Portions are generous without being overwhelming, making it easy to sample multiple items if you’re dining with a group.

One thing that stands out is consistency. On repeat visits, the food has been reliably good, which aligns with what many customer reviews mention. Locals often highlight the tenderness of the beef, the balance of heat, and the freshness of the sides. Online reviews across major platforms tend to hover in the high range, often praising both the food quality and the friendly service. While the dining room isn’t large, it adds to the charm, and the staff usually takes time to explain dishes to first-timers, which builds trust and comfort.

From an expertise standpoint, Indonesian cuisine has earned global recognition, with rendang frequently cited by food authorities and international publications as one of the world’s most flavorful dishes. UNESCO has also acknowledged Indonesia’s culinary heritage as an important cultural asset, which adds context to why these recipes matter. Bringing that tradition to Tulsa isn’t easy, especially when sourcing specific spices, but this bistro manages it by working with specialized suppliers and adapting carefully without cutting corners.

The location is convenient for south Tulsa residents, with easy parking and a calm neighborhood vibe. While there’s currently a single location, the steady buzz suggests there’s room to grow. That said, the restaurant does have limitations. Seating can fill up quickly during peak hours, and the menu, while focused and well-executed, may feel unfamiliar to diners who prefer very mild flavors. Still, the staff is open about heat levels and happy to guide you.

Overall, the experience feels genuine, rooted in tradition, and thoughtfully adapted for a local audience. Whether you’re already a fan of Indonesian food or just curious to try something different, this bistro offers a flavorful, reliable option that keeps people coming back, as reflected in both personal experience and community feedback.

  • The most delicious meal I’ve had this year! I only get to visit Tulsa once or twice a year. This was my second visit to Rendang and Co. The food was so good last March when I dined here that I couldn’t wait to go back. I finally got my chance last Thursday. I landed at Tulsa International, picked up my rental car and immediately drove here. Last time here I ordered Nasi Goreng (fried rice dish with vegetables and egg), and I wanted to try something different. I asked the host/waiter’s advice. He asked about my familiarity with Indonesian cuisine, my tolerance for spiciness, and if I liked curry. After weighing all my answers, he suggested the Nasi Pandang, a truly fantastic Combination Plate. There are a lot of variables when you order this dish. It comes with both Beef and Chicken and there are three different ways each of those are prepared. I chose the Kaila Rendeng (chunks of beef in a luxuriously rich gravy) for my Beef choice and Ayam Goreng (mind-meltingly delicious Fried Chicken Leg) for my Chicken choice. The Nasi Pandang combo plate also comes with a delightful Vegetable Curry (mild, very little heat), composed of Jackfruit, Cabbage and Green Beans, and a generous mound of tender white rice. All of these items are arranged around a hard boiled egg in the center of the plate. It was my first time trying all of the above and I was absolutely blown away. It was easily the most delicious meal I’ve had this year, and I eat out at least once or twice a week. I loved the Vegetable Curry so much I could’ve ordered only that and I would have been super happy. But the item that deserves special mention is the Ayam Goreng, the Chicken Leg. Omg that leg! It looked slightly over-cooked but it most definitely wasn’t. The leg was scored with a knife before frying, and the edges along those cuts were cooked to the point of chewiness. It’s a chewiness you never want to stop. When you’ve picked that chicken leg clean your mind forces you to keep turning it over and over, insisting there must be some morsel you overlooked. I washed all this great food down with a Lychee Ice Tea. First time trying it. Damn that stuff is good! Highly recommended. After my epic meal I met the chef, Indri Bahar, and told her how much I loved her food. She graciously agreed to allow me to take some photos of her and her husband (the host and waiter) Asnul Bahar. I should like to point out that Chef Indri was a recent (2022) Semi Finalist for a James Beard Foundation Award. How cool is that? My recommendation is that you should get over here and try this place out!

  • The friendliest staff we have experienced in a long time! The food was fantastic, and we can’t wait to find a new dish on the menu to try next time. Their martabak telur is a must have. Portions are great as well.

  • Absolutely amazing. The food, the service, the atmosphere, and even the music; was just off the charts. We really feel how much the owner and workers put into making the whole experience worth it and how passionate they are. This was 100000000/100. Our hearts were happy, bellies full. They provide you with real and fresh ingredients and the food comes out perfectly! Definitely try the fruit juices, they are…so so yummy. We can’t wait to tell our friends, neighbors, coworkers and family about this place. We will be back! -Broken Arrow food connoisseurs

  • Loved my dinner here. Everything was delicious. I got their combo plate with beef and chicken. I polished the plate. I don’t think they will need to wash it

  • This was my first time at this Indonesian restaurant and I was thrilled they had a selection of vegetarian options. I went with the most popular vegetarian dish which was Gado-Gado and YUM! It is the classic Indonesian flavor I think of when I want Indonesian food with a little spicy kick. This was the perfect dish as a first timer. There was a good balance of spice, flavor, texture and veggies with an added side of riceAlso, I ordered, Es Soda Gembira, a decaffeinated creamy beverage.

  • 5/5!!! Tried this place for the first time today after seeing Cook’s review on TikTok and we were NOT disappointed! We shared the beef filled pancake appetizer. It was light, crispy and FULL OF FLAVOR! We also had the meatball skewers and they were moist, seasoned perfectly and the dipping sauce was addictive! Lastly we shared the lamb in coconut sauce and it was so delicate, tender and flavorful. My only suggestion is to put salt on the table. We would have added a pinch more to our lamb dish. Otherwise PERFECTION! The service was quick and friendly. Highly recommend!

  • If you’re looking for authentic Indonesian cuisine in Tulsa, especially halal-friendly, Rendang & Co. is a standout: rich, flavorful dishes, genuine service, and a broad menu that gives you a chance to explore beyond the usual. Give their beef rendang or nasi padang a try, and ask about spice levels if you’re sensitive.
